In a recent interview with People magazine, producer and SoSo Def CEO Jermaine Dupri was asked about his stance on female rap. He revealed that he thinks today's generation of female rappers all sound like strippers. He then went on to say that all female rappers seem to be rapping about the same thing.
Following that, Cardi B quickly took to Instagram to reveal that she raps about her vagina because it is her best friend. She also name dropped a few female rappers who are more on the conscious side that don't get the recognition they deserve. Jada Pinkett Smith also chimed in, shouting out Doja Cat and Tink. Singer, Ari Lennox took it as far as making a little diss video for JD on her Instagram.
After receiving backlash, JD took to social media to reveal that he would be curating an all female cypher. Rapper, Queen Key quickly responded saying that the girls were not interested.
I personally think JD's statement was very ignorant. The best thing about Hip Hop right now is the many different lanes. There's the trap rap, the conscious rap, the bubble gum rap, the bars... and if you follow female rap, you would know that there are female rappers that fit into each of these lanes.
